A Little about Janaia Hyland
Janaia, you are running for Sheriff.
Will you tell us a little about yourself?
My family and I moved to Gillette, WY when I was seven years old, where I have lived ever since. I have lived in Campbell County for 41 years and I raised my family here. My mom was a nurse, my father was a postal worker and my step father was in law enforcement. I graduated from Campbell County High School in 1992. Shortly, after graduating from high school I went into law enforcement, working as a detention officer. A few years later, I became a patrol deputy and held other positions such as DARE Officer, Investigations, Field Training Officer (training new deputies for the sheriff’s office), Patrol Corporal and Sergeant. I supervised and managed the training program for the patrol division of the sheriff’s office. I worked as a supervisor in Investigations and Patrol, where I supervised criminal investigations relating from general crimes, crimes against people, narcotics investigations and homicides. I worked for the sheriff’s office for 26 years and retired as a sheriff’s sergeant in the fall of 2020.
Janaia, tell us about your core values.
My top priority is to keep Campbell County safe and secure, free from drugs, gangs and violence.
